One of the hardest truths to see in yourself is your own God-given talent. When something comes so naturally to you, you might assume that everyone is like that, that anyone could do that. “It’s nothing,” we think. But that’s not the truth!
In 1 Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul writes, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them” (verse 4). Different. That means you are not like them. Just like the nose has a unique gift and purpose, so do you. So do your brothers and sisters who are filled with the Spirit.
Here’s some homework—Point out people’s gifts. They won’t know how glorious God is unless you point out the glorious gift that he has given to them. Say to your information-loving friend, “How do you read so many books and listen to so many podcasts? That’s a gift!” Or to your influential buddy, “How do lead like that? You share your ideas and people follow them. That’s a gift!” Or to your bighearted sister, “How do you care so instinctively about people? Everyone else moves on, but you see the hurting people and reach out in love. That’s a gift!”
As our scientific knowledge grows, we marvel more and more at the way the human eye or ear works. May our spiritual knowledge grow too so we marvel at the way God made and gifted us.
