When God tells me he’s the Giver of every good gift, it’s easy for me to think of tangible blessings—family, friends, house, job, and my awesome chicken shoes. Sadly, I often forget the intangible blessings that he pours out too. So today, join me in focusing on God’s gifts that don’t include footwear. “Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus” (Romans 15:5 CSB)
Gift 1—Endurance: Satan messes with your mind to get you confused and worn out. This is when the Holy Spirit steps in to remind you that Jesus endured 33 years of temptation … perfectly, to be our stand-in and offer himself for the sins of the world. Because you get credit for Jesus’ life, God doesn’t say, “Work harder.” He says, “Use my strength. I’ve endured it all, and I will help you endure.”
Gift 2—Encouragement: Satan works hard to make you feel worthless and alone, especially because of what you did. Meanwhile, God says, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” He loves you because he chooses to love you, not based on your performance. Every day you wake up encouraged because his love gives you unlimited value.
Gift 3—Harmony: Satan tries to keep us fighting. However, people filled with encouragement and endurance don’t need to fight. With the Holy Spirit working in us, we live at peace, connected to a whole network of people who love each other.
