Some time ago, I was trying to reduce the amount of time I spent on my phone. But day after day, I found myself sucked into my screen far more than I intended.
A quick investigation revealed that the majority of my time was spent on one particular app. When I made this discovery, I knew that I could keep the app on my phone and try to resist it every day. Or I could just delete the app.
I deleted the app with this thought in mind: why resist in the future what I have the power to eliminate today?
This principle applies to the spiritual warfare that you go through. Each season of life presents its own temptations that try to steal you away from God. Each temptation is designed by the enemy to hit your weak points and challenge your faith. Why resist in the future what you have the power to eliminate today? Here’s what it might look like:
Eliminate worry with worship.
Eliminate greed with generosity.
Eliminate apathy with prayer.
Eliminate selfishness with kindness.
When you identify a temptation that is difficult to resist, ask God to give you the strength to eliminate it.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
