In 2023 the cost for a 30-second Super Bowl commercial was between 6 and 7 million dollars. Yikes! That’s a lot of Cool Ranch Doritos (best chip ever)! 

Perhaps you have made this statement: “If I just had more money, I could (insert temporary happiness here).” What would it take to make you happy and content? To be upfront, money is not evil. The LOVE of money is the major issue. But you can’t take money or possessions with you after you die.

Someone should have told the Pharisees of Jesus’ time that. “The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus (Luke 16:14). What follows this passage is the story of the rich man and poor Lazarus. 

Maybe each day you have to make a choice between paying for diapers or paying the utility bill, or maybe you are well off. Money will get you nice things, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if that becomes your sole purpose in life, you will miss the big picture. Your worth is not found in the bank or in your wallet or even in your Paypal app. Your worth is found in Jesus! 

If your diet allows, grab a bag of Doritos and ponder this quote from the reformer Martin Luther for 30 seconds or more: “God doesn’t love us because of our worth; we are of worth because God loves us.” Now that is priceless!
