When one and done doesn’t cut it

I’m not telling Time of Grace how to spend its budget, but couldn’t Pastor Mike just write the definitive devotion on grace and call it good? One and done.

“My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9), but hearing about it one time is insufficient. That’s because grace is like a diamond. With its many facets, perfectly proportioned, its polish and symmetry are breathtaking. Viewing it from one angle doesn’t cut it.

When people ask to see our daughter’s engagement ring, she holds out her hand and tilts it ever so slightly so the light can hit all the different reflection points. Friends ooh and ahh, commenting that her fiancé did such a good job designing the ring.

That’s why there are so many words written about grace. When the light catches it in a different way, it’s like we are seeing it for the first time. We wonder how we could’ve settled for a narrow understanding of God’s love, and we marvel at how he designed his plan of salvation.

I need more devotions because I need to know that the gospel still applies to me today after what I did last night. I need to see God’s love for me reflected in his Word the same way a teen searches his dad’s face for approval. I need more grace every day.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen (2 Peter 3:18).
