Today you have God’s blessing

Jesus had come back home to preach. He stood up and quoted the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18,19). After speaking of the promises of freedom, forgiveness, and favor with God, Jesus’ next words took his listeners’ breath away: Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (verse 21). Not tomorrow. Not someday. Today!

For four thousand years, God’s people had been waiting for someday. But the wait was over. Jesus had come to fulfill God’s promises made so many years before. Because of it, today he gives you peace even in the presence of peril. Today he gives you comfort even in the chaos of catastrophe. Today he gives you forgiveness even in the fear of failure. When it comes to these promises of Jesus, someday is today!

Look into the Word and see. You don’t need to hope that someday your health will improve, your wealth will increase, or anything else. Today you have freedom, forgiveness, and favor with God. And nothing in your life can change that reality. Nothing can change what Jesus has already given you. Every day you realize these blessings and hang on to Jesus’ every word. Scripture is fulfilled … today and every day you have God’s blessing!
