What will people say about you after you die?
While thinking about your death isn’t among the most cheerful thoughts, being mindful of the finish line does affect how you run the race. I’m sure you know that you aren’t just remembered for what you did on your best days. You are remembered for how you lived most days.
Most people, when they near their finish line, have some amount of regret. They could have had a different life and a different outcome if they had only lived in a different way.
Everyone will occasionally wonder what his or her life could have looked like if it hadn’t been for certain regrets. Even right now you might grieve the life that could have been were it not for the mistakes you did make.
Never let your thoughts end with regret. Let every thought lead you to Jesus. His perfect life is credited to you. Your regret-filled life was put to death on his cross. Your story is not limited by your regrets; it is expanded by the power of grace.
Someday when I die, that’s what I want people to remember about me. My life is not defined by my best moments or my worst regrets. It is defined by Christ’s grace for me.
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13).
