Are you as tired as I am of hearing the term fake news? It seems we’ve been bombarded with this idiom ever since the 2016 political campaigns. Sometimes I wonder if those who like to bandy the term most have become a bit like the “boy who cried wolf.”
Given our easy access to widespread information and disinformation on the internet, it is getting harder to differentiate between truthful and “fake” content. People will say anything to make a buck or sway people to their way of thinking, and even those designated as “fact checkers” can be accused of being biased.
All the while Satan smiles at the distrust that continues to grow in our country and world. After all, he “does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44 ESV). His goal is to get us to distrust each other, our leaders, our institutions, and ultimately God.
But there’s one piece of information that Satan will never be able to taint or change, and that’s the good news of Jesus. No matter how hard he tries, he can never alter the fact that Christ’s death and resurrection defeated Satan and his lies for all eternity.
Try as he may in this life, Satan’s days of propagating lies and distrust are numbered, and we will one day bask in the glory of that absolute truth.
