I don’t care who you are, where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or how often you’ve done it. Jesus’ arms are still wide open to forgive and embrace a sinner like you. How can I be so sure? Because I’ve read Mary’s story.

Mary Magdalene should have had the nickname Scary Mary. Just look at these words: “Some women [were with Jesus] who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out” (Luke 8:2). Think about that. If I told you that someone on your block was possessed by one demon, would you lock your doors (or start looking for another place to live)? But Mary didn’t have one demon. Mary had seven demons. A minivan full of fallen angels, spiritual beings who hate God and his people. Seven merciless accusers and relentless abusers lived in Mary Magdalene. I don’t know what she all did because of those demons, but I do know that Mary was beyond broken.

Until Jesus. Because those seven demons “had come out.” Outnumbered one to seven, God’s almighty Son commanded, and the evil ones came out of her. Jesus saved Mary. No wonder she followed him all the way to the cross and the tomb.

You can too. You might have your own demons. Some parts of your story might be too dark for a Disney movie. But Jesus won’t let that stop him from driving out your sin and calling you his own. Run to him today. His arms are already open.
