Picture this. King David wrote, “Lift up your heads, O you gates … that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty” (Psalm 24:9,10). King David was describing the Messiah marching gloriously through the temple doors! But David didn’t build the temple; his son Solomon did. In addition, the glorious King that he described wasn’t going to come into the picture for another thousand years. And yet David described it as though he was there, witnessing the whole thing. David didn’t miss the glory.
Do you ever miss it? Do you ever miss seeing the glory because things don’t look glorious? Many missed it in Jesus’ life. The religious leaders plotted to kill him. The people of Nazareth tried to push him off a cliff. Even his disciples didn’t see the glory very often. It’s easy to think that today is just another day.
But Jesus is coming … today. Maybe not for final judgment, but don’t miss the King and his glory. Do you see him? The King of glory is at our worship just as he promised. Jesus is there at your prayers before bed to listen to your requests and your thanks. The King’s glory can be seen when you put away someone’s guilt and say, “I forgive you.” Lift up your head and see! When you realize that the King of glory not only did come, not only will come, but is coming—then you won’t miss it.
