I live in a rural area, and as each season changes, we all see the signs. One of my farming neighbors says that as soon as you start seeing spiderwebs in the grass and in the trees, the first frost is about six weeks away. When farmers start cutting down the corn, we all say, “Watch out for deer.” After all, the deer can’t hide out quite as much in such a rich food source, so they move a little more.
God wants us to know about some other important signs too, ones that have implications about when Jesus will be coming back. “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:10-14).
That’s a hard and heavy section, but don’t miss the good part: the gospel will be preached! And you and I have been called to be part of that! We have the privilege of sharing our testimony and bringing more people to know that they are loved by the eternal God.
