“When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:18,19).
Do you remember your last “my foot is slipping!” moment? Maybe you were trying to step over a puddle or standing on rocks along a lake or heading down the basement stairs. There was one opportunity to grab ahold of something to prevent a wet foot, a soaked self, or serious injury.
How about emotional “my foot is slipping!” moments in the realities of making ends meet? When you feel yourself slipping, do you reflexively reach out, trusting that God will grab you before you hit the ground?
The apostle Paul, speaking of the sure hope of the resurrection, famously said, “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:19). He was worried that people would forget that faith in Christ has everlasting consequences and hopes. But sometimes, we forget that faith in Christ makes a difference for our daily lives.
Through faith in Christ, we have the assurance of heaven. Through faith we also have resources for life on earth. Our Father God is our help in the present moment. Our brother, Christ Jesus, walks with us and supernaturally works all things here on earth for our good. Our Comforter desires to help us this very day. Our sure hope is for eternity. Our sure hope is for the present moment as well.
