Love what God loves

We’ve all probably heard the age-old phrase, “You are what you eat.” But have you ever heard the one that goes, “You are what you love”?

Oof! That’s a tough one!

“Wait a minute,” we might argue. “That’s not fair!”

After all, there are so many things in life that we enjoy and—quite possibly—love that perhaps aren’t what we really want to use as definitions of who we are

But if you really take the time to sit down and think about the top two or three things you love most in this world, it has to be said that often those things generally define us—don’t you think?

Which means that we have to be careful what we love—right?

We need to put a priority on our relationship with Jesus and our faith in his saving grace. After that, we need to put a priority on others, loving them more than we love ourselves. Loving others as Jesus loves, as much as we can.

If you’ve ever been confused about this, it helps to think about it through God’s eyes.

The Bible advises in Ephesians 5:1: “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.”

The strategy is simple. Love what God loves.
