Lord, don’t be silent!

Even when we don’t realize it, our souls are longing to make a deep connection with God. We need to hear from him, whether we are praying about war, illness, or asking God to shine his light on a decision that needs to be made. Our hearts cry with the psalm writer, “O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!” (83:2 ESV)

God desires for us to desire him. He makes this promise: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).

When we seek God with all our hearts, we begin to embrace his working in every aspect of our lives. In Acts 17:28, the apostle Paul speaks of our reality: “In him we live and move and have our being.” Living in God’s world, we can feel confident that God wants to walk with us, reassure us, and act on our behalf.

God wants to work with us in everything. Knowing that God is present, active, and eager, we keep praying, “Don’t keep silent, God. Don’t hold your peace or be still, God.” The Lord’s Prayer serves as a model for requesting God’s assistance for everything from the majestic to the seemingly mundane. In addition, Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would be available to us to help us discern how to walk with God and to remind us of everything that Jesus has taught us.

Lord God, don’t be silent. Give us breadcrumbs of encouragement so we seek after you!
