My dog is obsessed with the bunnies in our garden. She stands at the door constantly, waiting to go outside. And when she’s outside, she spends all her time stalking through the flowers, looking for rabbits. It’s an addiction.

The other day I even had a treat for her and was trying to chase her down and get her attention. But she had a bunny in her sights and would NOT be distracted!

Author L.M. Montgomery once wrote in her book Emily Climbs, “If we don’t chase things, sometimes the things following us can catch up.”

I love this quote. Sometimes the things following people are bad things. But inexplicably—like me with my silly dog—the things chasing after us are sometimes good

Sometimes we run from good things without knowing it because we’re so stubborn! Sometimes we know it’s goodness chasing us down but that it will still be uncomfortable when it happens—because it requires change, or a reckoning, with how we’ve been living. When the good things catch up, it’s not always easy.

Remember Jonah and the big fish? When Jonah finally stopped running, God “provided” a fish to swallow him whole. Like it or not, the thing following Jonah (God) had “caught up.” And whether Jonah realized it at the time or not, it was a GOOD thing. A GOD thing.

Sometimes we need to stop chasing the things of this world and let God catch us.

“Seek the Lord while he may be found” (Isaiah 55:6).
