My wife and I did something crazy, something we have not done in over six months. Get ready for it … we moved our couch in the living room.
When sending this devotion to the editor to be approved, I included a photo, but let me give you the rundown of the junk we found under the couch: one flip-flop, a few partially eaten goldfish crackers, a plethora of potato chips, the head to a Lego figure, balls from a pump-action toy gun, and a deluge of dust bunnies. Gross is an understatement. What’s even more disgusting is that we and others sat on that couch not knowing what lurked beneath it.
As I sat there emptying the vacuum into the trash for the third time, I realized that this mess is a picture of you and me. We look perfect on the outside, nice and cushy. We dress up and cover the messes we make. But Ezekiel 18:4 reminds us that “the one who sins is the one who will die.”
We can hide it all we want, but we can’t escape our fate. Thank God we have something and someone more powerful than a Dustbuster. We have the Sinbuster in our Savior Jesus. He took on the messes we make and swept them all away. “The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). We are forgiven. So relax. Sit down. Take a load off, and be comforted that the biggest load has been taken care of by Jesus.
