In the magical world of Harry Potter, there’s a sport called quidditch where players zip around on brooms trying to throw a big ball through a giant hoop, giving their team ten points. But quidditch has an important addition—the golden snitch, which is a winged, gold-colored ball that zooms around like a nervous hummingbird. Each team has a seeker, a player whose sole job is to catch the golden snitch, which is worth a whopping 150 points. Seeking and catching the snitch is worth more than a dozen goals put together. Seek the snitch and you win.

I thought of that image recently as I read Isaiah’s invitation: “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6). Seek. Don’t just stand or sit and wait to find God. Be a seeker. Do whatever is necessary to know him, understand him, and be close to him. Because if you get God, you win.

You might be old enough to realize that the people who have the most money or the greatest popularity don’t win at this thing called life. The true winners are those who know Jesus as their Good Shepherd.

The truth is that you are going to “seek” something today. God, in his mercy, is inviting you to seek him. He wants to be found, which is why he isn’t flying away from you but instead waiting for you in his sacred Word. I am so glad you’re seeking him right now, because if you get God, you win.
