Hear me, Lord

Have you thought of designating multiple times per day to stop and pray?

“Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you” (Psalm 86:1-4).

Consistent prayer times help make prayer an underpinning of your day, letting the weight of the day rest on your relationship with Christ. Prayer gets woven into all times and experiences of your life. The apostle Paul encourages, Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2).

In addition, prayer during daily activities grounds you in God. When the day is chaotic, relationships are troubled, or work is maddening, spending a few minutes with God helps you to regain equilibrium. You give space for the Holy Spirit to work within you. You remember whose world it is, whose reality you live in, and how you best operate. You have opportunity to praise God and to ask for his help. In a longer discourse on prayer, James encourages prayer in a multitude of situations: “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise(James 5:13).

Prayer lifts the pressures that weigh you down. Lord, help us remember to call on you all day long.
