Kids test their parents all the time.
How many times can they say, “Mom, Mom, MOM!” until she answers? How long can they play a video game before Mom says, “Turn it off!”
Kids are always testing their parents. They’re very good at it, and most of the time parents don’t like it. Actually, most people don’t like being tested whatever the circumstances.
But we’re not the only ones being tested.
God actually invites and expects us to test him. Specifically, to test his ability and willingness to do what he says. Will he keep his Word? Will his promises come true for us?
“‘Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty” (Malachi 3:10). Wow! What does that say about God’s confidence level? about yours?
Take more God-honoring risks in your praying and living. The reason you’re holding back is not God but you. God can do the impossible. God makes incredible promises. God calls you his child. And God says, “C’mon, just try me.”
The reformer Martin Luther talked about rubbing God’s ears with his own promises. Like kids pestering their dad: “You said we could have ice cream!” That’s not disrespect. It’s calling on Dad to be true to himself and his Word.
Can you give more generously? Can you initiate that difficult conversation? Can you be a better parent? Can you survive therapy? Can you complain less and compliment more? With God’s help, yes. He is faithful. God can do it. He will pass the test. Every time. Now, ask!
