Peace means there is no missing piece in life. Does that describe your life? Finish this sentence: “If I only had ______, then I’d have peace.” Some never find it because they miss the point of this life.
Thrilled with their first successful flight in December 1903, the Wright brothers sent a telegram to their sister. “We have actually flown 120 feet. Will be home for Christmas,” it read. Their sister took it to the local newspaper. “That’s nice,” said the editor. “The boys will be home for Christmas.” You see the point? Don’t miss the real news.
The angels announced it two thousand years ago: “Do not be afraid. … Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. … Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace” (Luke 2:10,11,14). The message didn’t just say that a Savior had been born, but it included the most important words, “to you.”
Only God could ever deliver a present to the entire world on one night. He delivered the missing piece, spelled p-e-a-c-e. Everything is the way it should be now. God doesn’t provide the how, why, or what. God gives you better. He provides the Who. Jesus, the One wrapped in cloths at his birth, would also be wrapped in cloths at his death after he suffered the cross for us and was laid in a tomb. It is why he came. He came to give us the missing peace. So do not be afraid of anything!
