Why are we so good at grumbling?
Whenever I ask my kids to load the dishwasher, I usually get at least ten minutes of grumbling. Then, when they finally do it, it only takes half that amount of time to finish.
The same holds true for fun stuff. “Let’s have a game night!” Grumble, grumble! But within minutes, we are having fun, with everyone begging for one more round.
Humanity as a whole has grumbling down to an art form.
Remember the Israelites wandering around in the desert? They grumbled about everything! No food, too much manna, bad leadership, lack of Google maps! Moses must have been so tired of hearing them grumble!
Aren’t we guilty of this too? We grumble about gas prices and politics and the guy next to us in traffic. We grumble when the game we wanted to watch isn’t on TV or when someone eats the leftovers we wanted.
But what if we looked at all the PLENTY behind those grumbling moments? We are able to put gas in our cars! We are blessed to even have cars! We have televisions to watch sports and leftovers in a world where so many go without!
Wow. That kinda puts it in perspective. The next time you feel a grumble coming on, remember what you’ve been BLESSED with. And keep one step ahead of the grumbles!
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights” (James 1:17).
