I saw a commercial for a coffee creamer recently. The actor in the ad said, “This is my best friend in the morning!” As Christians, we can chuckle knowing that Jesus is our best friend first thing when we arise.
But do we really embrace Jesus as such? I can’t raise my hand in acknowledgement of that. I’m guilty of putting many things in front of him each morning. Checking texts, emails, social media, the weather, whatever it is!
In this devotion I’m calling myself out to be better at sitting at the feet of my Lord and Savior to continue to gain his wisdom for my life. I’m asking you to come along with me in a commitment to do the same. Soaking up the pages of Scripture has the power to change our lives. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” And John 8:31,32 says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Taking time to be in God’s Word and apply it to our lives gives us the power to mature in Christ and glorify God in our daily walks.
Pour me a cup of coffee but hold the creamer. I’m going to spend some time with my true best friend this morning!
