On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, passed away at the age of 96. The world watched in fascination at the pomp surrounding her funeral proceedings.
Did you watch? If so, did it make you feel … average? I’m going to guess you don’t live in a palace. When Jesus calls you home, thousands of people won’t shuffle respectfully past your casket, and your funeral procession won’t stretch for a mile. History books won’t record your life.
But guess what? You are royalty. Your royal status is higher and deeper and more eternal than any title this world can bestow. “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,” 1 Peter 2:9 says, “that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
You, friend, are a son or daughter of the King of the universe. You have a coveted reserved seat at God’s right hand, next to his glorious throne, forever. And what do you need to do to earn that spot? Nothing. You don’t have to be born in a palace or trace your family tree back to the Tudors. Through faith, Jesus earned that royal spot for you. You wear a crown that will never perish, spoil, or fade. Tell others! Declare God’s praises! They can share in your royal inheritance also. No limits, no quotas.
Unlike Queen Elizabeth’s golden crown, which will be incinerated on the day Jesus returns, your royal crown of life will last forever.
