I woke up this morning to a Snapchat video of one of my adorable great-nephews, Christian James. Christian just turned two, complete with a construction-themed birthday party (“I’m 2 and Digging It”). From the comfort of his dinosaur pajamas, Christian was preaching a construction-themed message this morning. With all the confidence and cadence of a Southern minister, Christian proclaimed, “Build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ!”
Preach, Christian!
Along with learning how to golf, how to fix a leak, and how to mow the lawn, Christian’s dad is instilling in him how to be a man after God’s own heart. In addition to using his words, eating his vegetables, and learning to share with his baby brother, Christian’s mom is laying the foundation for a lifelong relationship with his Savior.
My husband and I have had the privilege of laying that foundation five times over, and we’ve also entrusted our children to pastors, teachers, and mentors to build on that foundation.
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:10,11).
How about you? Is there a “construction worker” you need to thank for investing in your faith journey? Maybe it’s a coach from high school, a special teacher, or your grandma. Thank them. Thank God for them. And keep building.
